Champagne Stakes Withdrawal
"The Press” special Service AUCKLAND, March 31 The good Takanini fillies. Greensleeves and Sunny Bay. will not start in the Great Northern Champagne Stakes, the last big test for two-year-olds, to be run on the first day of the Auckland Racine Club's autumn meting on Saturday. Greensleeves is suffering from shoulder soreness, thought to have been caused through her giving herself a rick in training. She will be put out of work until next spring. A chestnut, by Balloch from Tolls Kiddie, Greensleeves won her last four starts and high hopes were held of her chance this week. She is owned by Mr T. Impey and trained by F. and G. w. Smith.
D. J. Wyatt, who was engaged to ride her in Saturday's event has now taken the mount on Selwyn. Fountain Head, on whom Wyatt was successful at Paeroa cn March 18, will now be ridden bv the Awapuni jockey. 3. V. Harris. Sunny Bay is expected to compete later at the meeting, rather than on Saturday, so is Marib. which is an acceptor for the first division of the Onslow Stakes on Saturday. Marib has had two hard race in the last week. Because of the rehandicap which he received through his two wins at Whangarel last weekend. Ole will not start in the second leg, the President's Handicap. on Saturday: Instead, according to his trainer, G. W. 8.. Greene, he win go to Hastings for the Hawke's Bay Jockey Club’s autumn meeting on April 12 and U. The Awapuni filly. Modernise, is a doubtful starter in the Great ' Northern Oaks.
