WOMEN’S MATCHES

Western was assured of winning the women’s senior cricket competition when it beat Beckenham outright on Saturday. S. McCaw (62) and E. Woods (56) made the best scores of the day. Beckenham v. Western Beckenham collapsed against the quiet Western attack and did not play like a high-scoring side. Replying to Beckenham’s first innings score of 53. Western scored 243. which included some fine batting. The consistent S. McCaw (62), E. Woods (56), P. McCaw (36), and T. Prestidge (50) were the main scorers. All of these batsmen have played well this season. R. Dickson (three for -63), L. Hawes (two for 56), and E. Overend (two for 40) were the most successful Beckenham bowlers, but they did not show the accuracy of previous matches.

Beckenham’s second innings followed the same pattern as the first, and the side could only make 59, of which C. Cawtheray (20) and L. Hawes (11) were the leading scorers. S. McCaw took three wickets for 10. B. Cattermole took two for 6. and S. Butters two for 9. -*

A weak 31 by Kotahi in its second innings enabled Mai Moa to win outright. Mai Moa declared its second innings closed with 91 for five wick*»ts on the second day s olay. L. Bayliss scored 26. J. Johnston made 16. and P. Darwood scored 25 with some bright batting. B. Harris was again the mainstay for Kotahi and made a valuable 20 out of the side’s total. B. Lane took three wickets for 20.
