U.S. Sailors Leave United States Navy seabees and sailors who have been serving in New Zealand and the Antarctic this summer left Christchurch airport yesterday aboard a Navy DC-6 for Nandi. “We are sorry to lose you ” the Chief of Naval Staff (RearAdmiral J. M. Villiers) told the annual parade of the Wellington Division of the Royal New Zealand Naval Volunteer Reserve in Parliament Grounds on Saturday morning. The parade was the last that will be attended by trainees under the compulsory military training scheme. About 110 of the 160 men on parade were C.M.T. personnel. Their numbers were swelled by about 170 sea cadets. To the sea cadets Rear-Admiral Villiers said it would be to them that the Navy would look for officer cadets and ratings, both for the regular Navy and the reserve. —(P.A.)

The Rev. H. Prowse. of the Methodist Church. Eketahuna, has been awarded the doctorate of theology degree by the International Senate of St. Andrew’s Ecumenical University Intercollegiate, London. It is the first time this degree has been conferred on a New Zealand clergyman.—(P.A.)
