SPEEDWAY RACING

B. McKeown In Form B. McKeown signalled hfs return to the Aranui Speedway on Saturday evening with wins in all three of the events in which he started. McKeown gave starts of up to 120 yards to the rest of the field and showed finesse and daring in overcoming his handicaps. Once he had overtaken the other riders McKeown won unextended and in his first win put up the fastest time of the season in the equivalent of Ttsec.

There were several falls in the solo races. The opening solo handicap was sensational when one after the other three of the five riders failed to take the bends -In the Autumn solo handicap • bard tussle developed between the two back markers. D. Brown and B. Savage. The judge was unable to separate these two riders and called a deadheat.

The first of the three-quarter events was a race which twnught the crowd to its feet and J. Sbawb winning sequence of 14 to Wh end; Desperate driving by Shaw carried him past all but R. Payne and S. Grafton, but in the final lap he was unable to bridge the gap to the leaden. In later events Shaw showed that he was still in top form by winning the remaining three T.Q. races, and establishing a new track record of 20.4 sec.

The midget can fared badly. Smashes and engine trouble took their toll, and in the final race only two cars were able to lino up. In the Aranui midget handicap the field was flagged down after B. Rossiter had struck the fence and then rebounded to collide with M. Sloan. A special feature was the ride of W. Rees, with his wife as pillion, through a blazing four-walled structure.
