GLUT OF FISH IN NORTHLAND

Half-Ton A Week Limit On Fishermen

(New Zealand t'ress association) WHANGAREI, March 23. The fish market has reached such a stage x of glut that a limit of half a ton a week per fisherman has been imposed on Northland fishermen. The managingdirector of Hukurangi Fisheries (Mr H. Yovich) said today that up to 60 boats through Northland were affected. Australian markets had been glutted since import restrictions were lifted about six months ago. Up to 20 tons a week had been coming in and Whangarei could absorb only 20 tons a month.

Exporting had been going satisfactorily so far and the price had held, but it had been felt it wiser to impose the limit as the amount of fish coming in could not be exported quickly enough.
