Dr. D. HanKn ' bas been appointed chairman of th* board o*. governors of Te Wai Piunamu Maori Girls’, College- in place af Mr G. Oakleixh Greenwood- who has retired. 'lt 'was rtported to the board recently that 12 of the 13 girls who sat the examination obtained their school certificates.
Mrs J. Rhind’presided at the March meeting of the Richmond Plunket Mothers’ Club and welcomed a new member ahd Mrs Roberts, an executive member of the Central Plunket Society. Mrs Goodenough gave a demonstration
of home millinery. The competition winner was Mrs Knowles.
The annual meeting of . the Rotherham C.W.L was held recently. Mrs Earl waa elected president, Mrs Hampton, vicepresident, and Mrs Munro secretary.
A~At the annual meeting of the Papanui Townswomen’s Guild, the following officers were elected:— President, Mrs C. A. Smith; treasurer, Mrs Marsh; committee, Mesdames Carson, Hadley, Mara. Pearce, Sharp and Willis; circle leaders, arts and crafts, Mrs Mara; civic, Mrs C. A, Smith; gardening, Mrs Preece; singing, Mrs Willis. .
The annual meeting of the Christchurch West Old Girls’ Association elected the following officers.—Patron. Mrs C. A. Noble; president, Mrs J. Ferrand; jubilee president. Mrs A. C. Pitcaithly; vice-presidents. Misses E, Pengelly, E. Chambers, Mesdames D. Whetter, L. Thomson and N. Sontgen; secretary, Mrs J. D’Arcy: treasurer, Miss M. Islip; committee, Mesdames D. Loach and N. Kennard, Misses R. Richards. J. Wise, J. Williamson, P. Barnes and G. Poole.
The annual meeting of the Sefton women's section of the Returned Services! Association was held in the Parish Hall recently. The following officers were elected:—President, Mrs N. Rollinson; vice-president, Mrs C. Wheeler; secretary, Mrs N. Binnie. Four hundred and ninty two poppies were sold and £2 2s was raised for the Rannerdale Home.
The annual meeting of the Riccarton Townswomen’s Guild, was held recently. Mrs Hodge presided, and Mrs Humridge, the Dominion president was present. The following officers were elected:—President, Mrs J. Fowler; secretary, Mrs H. Weatherhead; treasurer. Mrs G. C. Smith;' committee. Mesdames Hodge, Hopkins, Ross, Stout, Sansom, Trethowan, and Mijs Fraser.
Mrs Dorothy Johnson gave a talk on a tour through India to the members of the Home Economics Asociatlon recently. Some beautiful hand-woven saris ‘were exhibited. Miss Killner thanked Mrs Johnson. Sympathy was expressed with the relatives of Miss Sara McKee, a foundation member of the association, and with the relatives of the late Miss Anderson. ,
Mrs Prebble presided over the March meeting of the executive committee of the Canterbury East Federation of the Country Women’s Institute. She reported on the reception given* to Mrs Pocock, of Surrey, England, in the rooms in Cashel street and also on the meeting held in connexion with the coming A.C.W.W. conference. Arrangements have been made for the entertainment of the delegates on April 23. She also reported that the banner for the federation would be ready for the annual meeting. Mrs G. Eastmond presided at a meeting of the West of England Women’s Association recently. Arrangements were made tor two more bus trips during the season. A demonstration of brooches made from beads, sequins and bugles was given by Mrs G. Eastmond and much appreciated by members. Mrs A. Easterbrook thanked Mrs Eastmond.
