LLOYDS BANK ROBBERY
Son Of 'Air Chief
Charged CRANBROOK (Kent), March 20. Martin Searby, the 17-year-old son of Air Commodore John Searby, Director of Bomber and Reconnaissance Operations at the Air Ministry, was today accused of holding, up a bank yesterday and taking £2274.
He was remanded in custody till next Wednesday, charged with armed robbery at Lloyds Bank at Cranbrook, Kent. A policeman told the Cranbrook Magistrate’s Court today that Martin Searby had entered the bank, ■ held up the manager and staff, and stolen* £2274. He had been detained at Pembury, a nearby village.
A detective said that when charged, Searby had made a statement which amounted to an admission of the offence.
