Berlei Industries Ltd., is in « position to meet any additional output required as a result of the import restrictions—provided the necessary raw materials are available and that the necemry womanpower is forthcoming. This waa stated by. the chairman. Mr 3. A. Gentles, at the annual meet* Ing at shareholders. Mr Gentles said the company could accommodate more employees in all its production units. ? The last year had been a difficult one, both in manufacturing and marketing. Changing economic conditions brought about a resistance from retailers from placing forward orders to a system of smaller and more regular placements. This resulted at the time in a substantial increase in made-up stocks sb that prompt deliveries could he made. Trading so far this year indicated a steady demand for the company’s products. If these conditions continued prospects for the year appeared favourable.

TrutiL—Truth (New Zealand). Ltd., ha, announced a final preference dividend of-5.6 per vent, for the year ended March 31. 1968. Thl, 1, unchanaed. Wileox Moffiin, Ltd., wool, hide, and skin merchant, will not pay an interim dividend tor the half-year ended December 31. Last year’s Interim was 4 per cent., followed by a final of 4 per cent. The company had paid 8 per cent, for the last four years.

N.Z. BUTTER AND CHEESE

No Changes In Prices (New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON, March 18. No changes in the price of either New Zealand butter or cheese have taken place during the last week, says the Dairy Products Marketing Commission. Following the drop of 10s on March 10, butter has been selling at 230 s and at this figure trade has shown a slight improvement in the last week. The price for finest white New Zealand Cheddar has remained at 153 s and the market continues slow, with a slightly easier tendency for both United Kingdom Cheddar and cheshires. Relatively heavy supplies of Polish butter are going forward weekly, and the price has been reduced during the last week. Polish butter is now selling at 218 s while Hungarian butter is fetching 2225.

COLOMBO TEA SALES

With all centres operating freely, except for Russian buyers, who were absent, at this week’s Colombo tea auction, a good general demand prevailed. Best liquoring sorts and coloury brokens fetched firm to dearer prices, but below best were sometimes easier. Medium brokens advanced substantially as the sale progressed and registered firm to dealer rates, but low-growns declined five cents a pound. Fannings grades were generally dearer, but Persian Gulf types were stronger. Quotations: —High-grown broken orange pekoe, 335 cents per lb; good medium broken orange pekoe. 235: medium liquoring broken orange pekoe, 210; medium liquoring broken pekoe. 135; medium liquoring pekoe fannings, 240; medium liquoring orange pekoe. 232: low medium broken orange pekoe. 178; low medium pekoe fannings, 230; low medium orange pekoe, 222; low medium pekoe, 190.

Export Meat Schedules.—A report in “The Press” of Saturday morning, concerning the new export meat schedules which came into operation on Monday, stated incorrectly the wool increments to be paid in connexion with purchases of mutton and lamb. The correct increments are:—Shorn lamb, ranging from 3d a head to 4d a head; hoggets and wethers, plus or minus, 3d a head for each lib of wool over or under 11b; ewes, plus or minus 3d a head for each 11b of wool over or under lib.
