THREE DEAD, TWO HURT
Head-On Collision In Hawke’s Bay

Three persons are dead ana two others are in a serious condition in Napier Hospital as the result of a head-on car collision near Awatoto, on the main NapierHastings highway, about 5.30 p.m. yesterday. Those killed were: Ronald Frederick William ’"Ruddick, aged 49, an orchardist, of Havelock North, who died from injuries at 3.30 a.m. today. Mrs Adrienne Joy Rnddick. aged 47, and Dennis Leslie Page, aged 26, single, a woolclasser, of Westshore.
Mr Page was a passenger irt a car driven by Douglas Herbert Jeffar.es. aged 23. of Taradale, who escaped uninjured. In the car driven by Mr Ruddick were Mrs Ruddick and two of their six children. Bernard Ruddick, aged 13, and Roland Ruddick, aged nine„-both of whom are in hospital. Tonight, the condition of both boys was reported to be serious. Both cars were extensively damaged. While the breakdown truck was on the scene of the accident it was struck from the rear by another car but no-one was injured. Elderly Man Killed In Hastings (New Zealand Press Association) HASTINGS. March 16. An elderly man who was crossing a road to buy ice-creams for some children was killed when he was struck by a truck in Hastings about 7 o’clock last night. He was: James Macaulay, aged 73, postmaster and storekeeper at Elsthorpe, married, with an adqlt family. Mr Macaulay was crossing Heretaunga street after alighting from a friend’s car when he was struck by an old model truck driven by Mr J. J. Compton, of Outram road, Hastings. Pedestrian Killed By Taxi (New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON, March 16. A« pedestrian was killed instantly when he was struck by a taxi in Granville road, Trentham, at 12.30 a.m. yesterday. He was: Ernest Cyril Karsten, of Haywards Camp, Upper Hutt. Badly Hurt In Fall From Window (New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON, March 16. A 23-year-old Fijian woman suffered severe concussion, severe lacerations to the face and left knee and shock when she fell from a first floor window of a building in Hobson street, Wellington, at 2.32 p.m. today. She is Mrs Mabel Loma Thompson, of Hobson street. She was admitted to Wellington Hospital. Her condition tonight is reported to be fair.
