Sumner Foreshore
Sir, —I understand that it is proposed to build a stone wall, three feet six inches high, on the top of the embankment along the sea front at Sumner, and that gardens are to be laid out on the embankment (to be spoilt by the first good north-easter). I wonder if the owners artd occupiers of the adjacent houses have been asked about their excellent view being spoilt. Apart from this, who is responsible for the cost of the wall and maintenance
which undoubtedly would be a considerable amount annually?— Yours, etc., SUMNER-BORN RESIDENT. March 10, 1958. [The Town Clerk (Mr H. S. Feast) made the following comment: “The wall is to be erected in the interests of and for the protection of Sumner as a whole. Its erection has been discussed with the Sumner Residents’ Association. The cost of construction is being shared by the Government and the council. The cost of maintenance will be the responsibility of the council.”]
