Miss Sloper Throws Discus 156ft lin
(New Zeai ana Press Association! AUCKLAND, March 16. Miss Valerie Sloper threw the discus 156 ft lin at Auckland yesterday. This was Bft sin better than the Empire Games record of Mrs Yvette Corlett at Vancouver in 1954. The present national record is 151 ft 6in held by Mrs Corlett, but the Waikato champion, Miss Jennifer Thompson, recently recorded 155 ft 10$in and this is awaiting official recognition. Miss Thomson’s best throw yesterday was 152 ft 9£in. Miss Stuart’s ILlsec In 80 Metres Hurdles (New Zealand Press Association) HASTINGS, March 16. The national record for the 80-metres hurdles was broken by Miss Margaret Stuart, of Hastings, at an athletic meeting in Hastings yesterday. On two occasions she recorded ll.lsec. against the present New Zealand time of 11.2 sec.
