Radio Quiz Winner On Air Trip To Britain
ifars Marjorie Ball, of Waimate, who won a trip to Britain in a radio quiz programme last August, left Christchurch by air yesterday and will be away for about six months. Mrs Ball is the mother of three children, and one of her sons, Robin, 1 is making the trip with her. Her husband is a beekeeper in Hook, Waimate.
At Sydney, they will visit Mrs Ball’s tw,o sisters, one of whom is Miss Josephine’ Mayo, whp visited Christchurch recently Asked if the 661 b of luggage allowed was enough, Mrs Ball said: “It was plenty for me, out Robin needed a little extra room for his sports equipment.” Robin Ball is the Canterbury shot-put and javelin title-holder, and a well-known New Zealand and University athlete. He hopes to visit the Empire Games in Cardiff. He is an agricultural student at Canterbury Agricultural
College and intends to visit farms in Britain, Holland and Denmark. Mrs Ball will arrive in England on March 30.
Many of Mrs Ball’s relatives are in Britain, so she and her son will not have to stay at many hotels. She is going to visit Wallasey and join in her first hign school old girls’ reunion. She is interested in country women’s organisations, and will be making contacts with the Association of Country Women of the World.
Mrs Ball particularly wants to see heather growing in Scotland and the road to the Isles. She has already arranged to visit the Chelsea Flower Show with a New Zealand friend in London. “My Fair Lady” is a show she - wants to see, and during the English summer she and her son will try to fit Paris into their full itinerary.
Mrs Ball spent this week learning to'work the camera given ner by one of her sons so that she will have a pictorial record of the trip.
