The Problem Of Peace
Sir, —Anyone reading the letters from pro-Communist’s are given the impression that . the Soviet Union is working and building enti/ely for peace. In fact it has a submarine fleet estimated at over 500 and is still builan.g. China recently took delivery from Russia (a first instalment) of 13 of these vessels. A vast programme of submarine building can only mean one thing —an offensive war. Britain and America will never attack Russia, and as the cancerous system of communism can never be trusted, the free world are absolutely right in arming as a protective measure.—Yours, etc., LESLIE J CAES. March 12, 1958.
Sir,—“HavO faith in God.” On the highest authority herein lies the solution to the problem of peace. But to have faith in God involves an intelligent consciousness of the nature, substance, and reality of God the all-wise, almighty, creative spirit of love and truth, “Who is in all, through all, and over all” creation. Eternal life is to know God, and to know God is to have faith in the victory of goodness over evil. God’s perfect positive love in our heartscasts out the negative “fear, which hath torment.” Herein is our peace, any authority on animals knows that only the fearful trust in “the big stick,” for it is the poisonous odour of craven fear that causes the savagery in the dog, or an inherent instinct resulting through cruelty previously experienced.—Yours, etc., D. W. JONES. March 11, 1958.
