League SUNDAY MATCHES

Sub-Committee To Investigate The possibility of holding Sunday Rugby League matches is to be considered by a sub-committee set up at the annual meeting of the Canterbury Rugby Football League last evening. The three-man committee of Messrs B. Griffith, G. H. Blazey, and P. J. Morrisey, will also consider the administration of the Sunday matches. They will report their finding to the board of control A motion asking the board to consider placing only two matches at the Show Grounds on Saturdays during the coming season, and that the other matches be played on home grounds with the board taking a percentage of the admission charges was passed by the meeting. It was moved by Mr Morrisey, who said playing on home grounds would increase the public interest In the sport. The formation of a senior officers’ club in Christchurch was suggested to the meeting by Mr L. R. Huston. He said a club had been formed in Auckland and was helping to handle seme of the detail work of the board. It was left to the board to consider the recommendation. Mr R. Fahey asked if any move was being made towards the league obtaining its own ground. The board was open to suggestions about any available ground, said the president, Mr L. G. Amos. However, five acres would be required, and an area of this size was not available within the city limits. Answering a question Mr Amos said the reason for selling Athletic Park was that it was redundant, low lying, and damp. The meeting approved April 19 as opening day. The following officers were elected: patron. Mr W. E. Desmond; president, Mr L. G. Amos; vice-presidents. Messrs W. K. Blaw. W. Cole, H. A. King, and W. B. Rogers; chairman. Mr L. R. Huston; secretary-treasurer, Mr D. G. Gaynor; delegate to New Zealand Council, Mr w. F. Moyle: board of control, Messrs Huston (chairman). G. H. Blazey. P. Morrisey and I. S. Campbell.
