CONCENTRATION OF SHIPPING

Minister Critical

(New Zealand Press Association) TIMARU, March 11. The concentration of shipping in some of the bigger New Zealand ports, such as Auckland, was criticised by the Minister of Marine (Mr Fox) today. He was replying to a welcome given him by the Timaru Harbour Board when he arrived to inspect the port facilities. “I think we are concentrating too much in the main ports,” he said. “It is no good having ships idle in some ports and berths empty in others.”

Mr Fox said that he was pleased that exports from the port of Timaru exceeded imports. “There are other ports in the north that are not in such a favourable position,” he said.
