POST-GRADUATE STUDY IN U.S.

Fellowship Offered To N.Z. A fellowship offered by the King George VI Memorial Fund, under the sponsorship of the English-Speaking Union of the United States, will be awarded for the American academic year 1958-1959 to a New Zealand man or woman who wishes to take a post-graduate course in technical or scientific studies at an American university.

The stipend of the fellowship will be 2500 dollars, and the cost of tuition for one year, and tbe minimum cost of travel between the candidate’s home and the educational institution.

The fellowship derives from a fund raised by the EnglishSpeaking Union of the United States to commemorate the contribution to British-American understanding made by King George VI. The selected candidate must be a New Zealand citizen not less than 18 years of age nor more than 30 on August 31, 1958, unmarried, and the holder of a New Zealand University degree. Each branch of the English Speaking Union of the Commonwealth in New Zealand has set up a pre-selection committee to interview local candidates, but the final selection will be made by a committee which includes the American Ambassador in New Zealand, Dr. G. A. Currie, ViceChancellor of the University of New Zealand, and Dr. B. C. Lee, Superintendent of Technical Education.

Graduates from the scientific and technical' professions are invited to apply, but there is difficulty in placing students in the social sciences. A committee in New York will assign candidates to the institutions in the United States best suited to their needs, having regard to desirability of wide geographic distribution within the United States of fellowships from different countries of the Commonwealth. Particulars and application forms may be obtained from any university college, or from Mr E. F. Scott, of the English-Speaking Union, P.O. Box 406, Christchurch, to whom applications must be sent by March 28. Canterbury candidates will be interviewed on April 10 in Christchurch. The candidate selected will be expected to sail for America in time for the first semester in September, 1958.
