KIPPENBERGER SCHOLARSHIP

Proposal To R.S.A. Council The establishment of a scholarship fund in memory of MajorGeneral Sir Howard Kippenberger is being considered by the Returned Services’ Association. The proposal, which will come before the Dominion council of the R.S.A., envisages a scholarship for advanced study in Britain, the improvement of the Kippenberger collection in the library at Army headquarters, and “a suitable, but simple memorial to the man himself in the new Anglican cathedral in Wellington.” In a note to its resolution the Dominion executive of the R.S.A. says the capital cost of the memorial in the cathedral would be about £5O “and after that the aim should be the establishment of a fund which would yield an annual income of some £350£400.” The Dominion executive was confident that such a capital fund would be readily subscribed to by the members of the association. “It was pointed out by members of the executive,” says the R.S.A. “Review,” “that the military library established by Sir Howard Kippenberger was a remarkable one and that by keeping it up-to-date the association would be doing something close to his heart.

“As to the scholarship, members envisaged that it would be available to suitable scholars to undertake advanced studies at a university or technical institute in the United Kingdom.”
