BIG OFFER FOR SECOND EARL
Colt “Not For Sale” (New Zealana Press Association) NEW PLYMOUTH, March 10. A substantial offer was made on behalf of an American owner for the champion colt, Second Earl, at the Taranaki Jockey Club’s meeting today. The offer was made by an American, Mr Ted Williams, who attended today’s meeting on behalf of Mr Martin Traub, of Tacoma, Washington. Mrs C. McGregor, the colt’s * owner, has refused the offer. Mr Williams said he had come 7000 miles to buy the colt. He said Mrs McGregor had said that if ever Second Earl did come on the market, he could be given first chance of buying the colt. He refused to disclose the amount of the offer, but said: “You can take it from me it was very substantial.” Second Earl figured in a sensation in the Taranaki Stakes today when he reared up at the start, injured himself, and was unable to take any part in the race. Jockey’s Condition Fair (New Zealand Press Association) NEW PLYMOUTH, March 10. The condition of the Stratford hurdle jockey, T. J. Reynolds, who was injured when his mount, Garrywill, fell in the Okake Hack Hurdles at the Taranaki Jockey Club’s meeting at New Plymouth today was reported tonight by the New Plymouth hospital to be fair.
