Sir, —Your correspondent “The Avon’s Side” regrets trees must be cut down as land is cut up for housing. Although it is held in • some quarters that long ago and far away we descended from the trees, nostalga should not influence us where the safety of sewer connexions is concerned. Nor should it influence us regarding trees for tombstones. Acres of stone are sombre, but granite is beautiful In its natural surroundings. Acres of trees, with graveyard associations would become equally sombre. A Trees tor Tombstones Society would have to maintain a very efficient fire se> vice.—Yours, etc., “DRY PINE." March 6, 1958.
