Every year dozens of books lor those building, renovating, or furnishing a home are published. In the following books will be found a fund of information and advice: “THE NEW ZEALAND HOUSE,” sth edition,” by Max Rosenfeld, 180 pp., 12s 6d, Is a complete manual for those planning homes. Especially written for New Zealand conditions, it contains a section on planning, many plans and working drawings, and a trade directory. “HOME FURNISHING IDEAS,” from the magazine “Better Homes and Gardens,” 234 pp., 12s 6d, contains hundreds of the latest American ideas in furnishing and hundreds of photographs, many of them in colour. “HOME HANDYMAN ILLUSTRATED,” 256 pp., 10s 6d, Is a complete guide to “do-it-yourself.” “PRACTICAL HOME DECORATING AND REPAIRS,” 384 pp., 12s 6d, shows how to effect all types of repairs in the home, from replacing a fuse to repairing the ravages of dry rot. “HOW TO PLAN YOUR LIVINGROOM,” by Mary Brandt, 96 pp., 13s 6d, also discusses the planning of dining rooms and antique furniture. “HOW TO PLAN YOUR BEDROOM,” by Mary Brandt, 96 pp., 13s 6d, deals with bedroom furnishing and decorating, even down to the choice of pillows. “HOW TO BUILD YOUR OWN GARAGE,” by Wayne C. Leckey, 128 pp., 29s 6d, gives details of the construction of many types of garage, including one with an atom-bomb shelter incorporated. “AUSTRALIAN HOME DECORATOR,” by B. H. Brindley, 240 pp., 23s 6d, covers In great detail every facet of the painter and paperhanger’s trade.
“MODERN FURNISHING AND DECORATION," by D. E. Barry Martin,. 96 pp., 8s 6d, is a Wellington architect’s guide to interior decoration.
