Painting Made Easy For All

Nothing has played a greater part in the advancement of interior decoration in recent years than the development of easy-to-apply paints in a host of new colours. Persons who in the past would not have considered painting the interior of the house themselves are tempted by a tantalising and continually growing range of colours. Easier methods of application and dripless and self-levelling paints and enamels complete the process.

The result is that surfaces which would never have seen a coat of paint because of the high cost of a professional job or the unsuitability of finishes previously available are being covered with fresh colour.

Alkyde resin water paints were the first boon to the amateur. Then came alkyde resin paints which are mixed with turpentine. The latest easy-to-apply paints are dripless, dry in less than half an hour, and with the use of the roller, which has almost ousted the brush for use on flat surfaces, can be applied at great speed.

Corrugated rollers for painting roofs have even been developed. For exteriors, glossy paints are in favour. Their great virtue is their resistance to dust and dirt,

which‘penetrates the flat finishes of lead paint. A quick hosing cleans dust off the glossy finish. Although th* glossy finish paints in time chalk in the usual way, they are easily cleaned off for repainting with sandpaper. Enamelling, once a difficult task attempted successfully only by experts, has now become within the scope of .the novice with the introduction of less sticky and self-levellipg enamels. Almost any colour in good-class paint can be confidently applied as fast and lasting. Even with blue, once a problem colour, the paint manufacturers have beaten the old difficulties.

There is a fault in the house, but would you have it built without any* —English proverb. *
