Children Greet Queen Mother
(Rec. 12.15 a.m.) ADELAIDE, March 5. Ninety-thousand children gave a rousing greeting to the Queen Mother today at Victoria Park racecourse. The children cheered, whistled, and waved hats, caps and flags for half an hour. The deafening roar began as the Queen Mother arrived in her open car, and died down only for the police band’s playing of the National Anthem. The Queen Mother made a three-mile drive through the children. Her right hand hardly stopped waving, and the famous Royal smile did not leave her face throughout. This afternoon the Queen Mother was presented with the State’s gift of a solid gold salver by the Premier, Sir Thomas Playford, after she officially opened the Queen Elizabeth Hospital at Woodville. The salver bears an engraved picture of the hospital and an inscription. Tonight the Queen Mother is attending a Royal musical festival and river pageant.
