Leader Visits Christchurch

“My arm is to help women to have a sense of belonging to aether within Australia and New Zealand,” said Mrs Maynard Davies, of Australia, at a meeting of Congregational women in

the Trinity Congregational Church last evening.

She took up the work of laywoman about four years ago after she had travelled extensively abroad. During the trip she atattended the World Council of Churches meeting at Evanston, United States. She was one of 44 women among 1400 delegates and the only woman member of the executive of the Australian Committee. After she returned to Australia she was in great deImand as a speaker and as a result of the World Council of Churches (meeting she took a prominent part in the Congregational Church’s i affairs.

She is president of the Congregational Women’s Fellowship of Australia and New Zealand. During her term of office she has been visiting Congregational women in the two countries.

Since her election almost two years ago in Perth, she has covered Tasmania, Victoria. Queensland. New South Wales and New Zealand. Next month she will be iin Canberra, and then will go to i South Australia.

In July Mrs Davies will go to the United States to attend the International Congregational Council meeting at Hertford. Connecticut, where she will be inducted as president of the Women’s Fellowship of the council In the Congregational Church women had an equal status with | men. said Nirs Davies. Many out- [ standing women had been orcs ained such as the Rev. Isabella Merry, chaplain of the women’s [ hospital in Melbourne, and Miss ’ Hilda Small of Auckland, a past 1 chairman of the Congregational I Union of New Zealand. During her three weeks’ stay jin New Zealand, Mrs Davies has : visited many towms in the North [lsland. She will stay in Christ--1 church for two days.
