Rear-Admiral J. M. Villiers has assumed the appointment of Chief of the New Zealand Naval Staff and first Naval member of the New Zealand Naval Board. He succeeds Rear-Admiral J. E. H. Mcßeath, who is returning to the United Kingdom with I his family in the Monowai on ’.Monday.— (PA.)
Major-General 6. E. Weir, the Government’s military adviser to 5.E.A.T.0.. will attend the S.E.A.T.O. military advisers’ conference at Manila from March 6 to B.—(P.A.) Sir Leonard Wright, Mayor of Dunedin, who has completed a two-year term on the Tourist Hotel Corporation has been replaced by Mr D. Weir, of Christchurch, who' was licensee of the> Clarendon Hotel for some years. Mr D. S. Cox (Christchurch) has been reappointed for a further term. These appointments were confinhed by Cabinet on the recommendation of the Minister in charge of Tourist and Health Resorts (Mr Mathison).—(P.A.) Mr Hugh Barton, chief administration officer for the Ministry of Works, Wellington district, retired yesterday after 40 years’ service with the department. He will be succeeded by Mr E. A S. Maxwell, at present chief inspector at head officq.—(P.A.) Mr R. S. Brittain, chief executive officer for New Zealand of -the Bank of New South Wales, will arrive in Christchurch on March 4. After visiting his bank’s branches in the city he will visit the Ashburton. Timaru, and Geraldine branches.
