DOCKERS TO RETURN

Melbourne Vote On Strike (N.Z. Press Association—Copyright) (Rec. 8 pm.) MELBOURNE, February 28. Five thousand striking e dock workers, at a mass meeting in Melbourne today, voted to return to work on Monday. The dockers’ decision followed an earlier announcement by the Stevedoring Industry Authority fixing 15 men as the basic strength of roster gangs of waterfront labour in Melbourne.

It rejected an application by employers for 11-man gangs. The strike began on Monday when the dockers’ union, the Waterside Workers’ Federation, demanded that gang sizes be rebuilt to 17 men. Yesterday, the Industrial Court ordered the dockers to resume work. Today more than 30 overseas ships were idle in the port.
