The United States Under-Secre-tary of State, Mr Robert Murphy, began his fourth day of talks in Tunis today on the American offer of “good offices’* to solve the French ana Tuisian dispute. r The British Ambassador in Tunis, Mr —ngus 'Malcolm, who returned there from talks In London last night, said he had hoped to arrive with Mr Harold Beeley, Britain's “good offices” representative, but Mr Beeley was not leaving Lonuon “for the moment.” Meanwhile, some of the bitterest fighting of the three-year Algerian war (which Tunisia claims is the root of the FrenchTunisian dispute)* has cost the lives of at least 30 French soldiers and more than 400 insurgents in the last two days, French military reports said. French Army headquarters in Algiers said last night tha insurgents lost 3371 dead and tha French 297 in fighting this month.
