Co-operation In Administration

(Rec. 9.30 p.m.) CANBERRA, Feb. 28.

Australia and the Netherlands have agreed to a series of specific measures to improve the co-operation in the administration of their respective territories, the Minister for External Affairs, Mr Casey, said today. He said that the agreement provided the following early steps towards cooperation: Dutch and Australian liaison officers would be appointed to Port Moresby and Hollandia, in Dutch New Guinea, respectively. An attache would be appointed to the Netherlands Embassy in Canberra to deal specifically with New Guinea matters of common concern. Regular meetings would begin toward the middle of this year between officials of the two administrations and officials of the two Governments.
