SERVICE WIVES WHO WILL NOT STAY AT HOME

(Rec. 11 p.m.) x LONDON, February 27. Four “stay-at-home” wives of naval officers will leave Britain on April 26 to drive through eight countries to the Himalayas. They plan to spend six weeks climbing in the world’s highest range before returning to their kitchen sinks. The four are: Mrs Betty Patey. Mrs Anne Davies, Mrs Antonia Deacoek, and Mrs Eve Sims. They thought of the idea when talking about service wives being left at home while their husbands saw the world. The wives said they were having a van converted into a mobile home and would take turns to drive it. The trip would take them through Belgium, Germany, Austria, Jugoslavia, Greece, Turkey,

Persia, and India. Mrs Patey, who suggested the Himalayas as their target, said that the group all had some climbing experience. Petrol and food would cost £4OO. They thought their expenses would be about £ 1000, plus the cost of the van.
