Brief Opening Ceremony

(New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON, February 17. The ceremony of opening the newly-constituted Court of Appeal today was notable for its brevity. The No. 2 courtroom of the Supreme Court, with the dais rebuilt to accommodate the three judges qf the Court of Appeal, was well filled by • members of the legal profession, including the former Minister of Justice (Mr Marshall).

The Minister of Justice (Mr Mason) moved: “That it be recorded that today being the first sitting of the newly-constituted Court of Appeal, the members of the Bar have attended to pay their respects to the Court.” The president of the Court of Appeal (Mr Justice K. M. Gresson) said the motion properly marked the first sitting of the Court, which was a milestone in the course of 'the administration ot justice. He expressed the appreciation of the Court to the Minister and others attending and added: “We shall proceed now to the business of the day.” The Court then made fixtures for hearings.
