Motor Racing CHAMPIONSHIP HILL CLIMB
M. Stanton Sets Record
(New Zealand Press Association) TIMARU, February 17.
The Christchurch driver, M. Stanton, drove skilfully on the tight Cielland’s Hill course at Sutherlands, on Saturday to win the New Zealand motor-car hill climb championship.
Stanton, at the wheel of his rearengined Stanton Special, set a record for the hill, with 53.95ec on his third run. Earlier, R. Campbell, also of Christchurch, had broken Stanton’§ former record of 55sec with a second run of 54.95ec.
R. Roycroft, of Auckland, with his Ferrari, could do no better than a fourth in the championship event and first equal in his class. Results:—
