Woodend Beach Road

Sir,—Canterbury is foitunate to have several first-class camping resorts on safe beaches. One of the best of these is Woodend Beach, but it has the worst rbad leading to it. For years the roads to Waikuku Beach and Kairaki have been tar-sealed, but not so the road to Woodend Beacn. Could the Rangiora County Council tell us why this state of affairs exists and when it will be remedied?—Yours, etc., G. C. ARMITAGE. February 4, 1958. [The Rangiora County Clerk (Mr S. G. Dailey) said that the roads to Kairaki beach and Waikuku beach were both main highways, and consequently work on them was subject to a £3 for £1 subsidy from the National Roads Board. The road to Woodend beach was not a highway, although applications had been made to have it declared as such.]
