QUEEN MOTHER IN AUSTRALIA

Thousands Welcome

Her Majesty

(MJZ. Press Association—Copyright) (Rec. 830 pan.) CANBERRA, Feb. 14. The Queen Mother greeted Australia with a smile and a wave of her white-gloved hand as she stepped down from her airliner to begin her three weeks’ tour of the Commonwealth today. Looking fresh, in spite of her strenuous two weeks’ tour of New Zealand, the Queen Mother was given a great reception from thousands of Australians who had waited hours in 80-degree temperatures at the Royal Australian Air Force airport, Fairbairn.

Excitement grew among the crowd as the airliner taxied to a halt exactly on schedule at 4 p.m., Australian eastern time.

At the first glimpse of the Queen Mother the crowd was silent. Then a roar of greeting burst across the tarmac.
