FUCHS LEAVES POLE

[From DENIS WEDERELL, "The Press” Correspondent with the U.S Antarctic expedition] McMURDO SOUND, Jan 23. Dr. Vivian Fuchs and his 11 men left the South Pole for Scott Base at noon today with 18 Americans who will winter at the Foie* watching and wishing him God speed. The 1250 miles the party has to travel will take it over ■ the featureless Polar plateau in which only an occasional view of the mountains will break the monotony. Dr. Fuchs hopes to be at Scott Base by March 1.
