AERO CLUB’S FLYING
Satellite Airfield Sought An increase in flying hours, in spite of restrictions imposed on the Canterbury Aero Club’s activities at Harewood during December, is noted in the club’s newsletter. Hours flown during November were 370, an increase of 695, but during December fell to 2831. a decrease of almost 18. The figure for the first nine months of the financial year was 3218} compared with 2958? for the same period last year, an increase of 260 hours. Restrictions imposed during December made the increase less because by the end of November the club was 297 J hours up on its previous eight months* figure. It is still hoped, however, that the target of 4100 hours for the whole year may be reached and this would be helped if the club able to find a satellite field within a reasonable distance of Christchurch, the newsletter says. The field sought should be at least 600 yards long with reasonably clear approaches and should preferably lie in a north-west to south-west direction, the newsletter says.
