POSTPONEMENT OF TRAINING

P.A.Y.E. Taxation’s Effect On Job The changeover to P.A.Y.E. taxation required a serviceman to alter most ledger machines used for payroll work, said Mr J. B. Sutton, of Burroughs Ltd., before the Military Training Postponements Committee yesterday. MacKay, who is employed as a serviceman. pie machines had a control unit preset to the particular type of work, he said. The number of his company’s machines in Christchurch affected by P.A.Y.E. were 100 to 150. There were two persons employed on this work—one of them McKay—and the alterations had to be completed by the end of April, he said. It’was not possible to get a replacement from another city as this work was going on everywhere. It was not the company’s policy to work overtime as this alteration work required great concentration.
