At a meeting this t week it was decided to approach : the United States State Department p to inquire if the proposal could be - implemented under a scheme simir lar to that which brought the indoor basketball coach, Mt R. Wooden, » to New Zealand last year. s Mr A. J. Gittos said today he had 5 approached the United States Embassy in Wellington and received a cordial reception to the idea. , a An official assured Mr Gittos anv | coach selected would be “of a’t □ least Olympic standard and possibly from the strongest American fencing centre, New York.” His stay in ,’ New Zealand would not be long, per- ’ haps two or three weeks, and the national association would be requested, though not obliged, to arrange billeting. The cost of the trip would be borne by £he State Department.
