Drivers Practise On Circuit | c Several of the drivers competing in the Lady Wigram trophy race on Saturday practised on the circuit * last evening. The high-pitched * scream of superchargers and squeal- 2 ing of tyres was heard over a wide area as the drivers hurtled round 1 the circuit to test their machines. 1 The vigorous English driver, Archie Scott-Brown, who has the use of only one arm, put in several laps at very fast speeds in his Lister- ' Jaguar. "I think the circuit is awful. That bump by the hangars really J makes you work,” he said, jokingly, J after his practice. • F. D. Cantwell (Tojeiro Jaguar) J found his car missing badly, and his j lap times suffered K. J D. Harris (Monza Ferrari) recorded 4 some of the best times for the sports cars. ' Driving the Maserati formerly 1 owned by Stirling Moss, Ross Jensen, of Auckland, appeared quite at ease on the circuit, and his car ran j very sweetly. Jensen is one of the ( New Zealand contipgent who should be close to the leaders tomorrow. < One of the most encouraging sights ] for local enthusiasts was the mammoth eight-cylinder Maserati of ( Frank Shuter, travelling, at speed. ( This car, originally built for racing at Indianapolis, appeared to be handling well, taking into account its terrific power and speed. Its top J speed of about 180 miles an hour on 1 its present gear ratios can never be reached by Shuter on the short straights. i Most of the drivers returned their 1 cars to city garages last evening ] for last-day checks before the race 1 tomorrow. 1 i
