T.A.B. Policy On Doubles

(New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON, January 23. The Totalisator Agency Board has decided that where a racing or trotting club operates two doubles a day, the board will accept betting on the double selected by the club ’as the offcourse double. A statement to this effect was made by the chairman of the board (Mr C. S. Thomas) today. Mr Thomas said: “It now appears that some clubs which operate two doubles a day wish to have the first race as the first leg of the double. It would be inconvenient to off-course betters if the board accepted betting on such a double, as betting would close very soon after the opening of the board’s offices on race day.

“In view of this development, the board has decided that where a club operates two doubles a day the board will accept betting on tile double selected bv the club as the off-course double. For economic reasons, it is hoped that clubs will not include the eighth race as the second leg of- the off-course double. “Effect will be given to this decision for meetings to be held on and after February 1.”
