TRAFFIC TO CAR RACING

Delays Likely On Riccarton Road An appeal to motorists travelling to Wigram for the Lady Wigram Car Race on Saturday not to use the portion of Riccarton road which is being reconstructed was made by the chief traffic officer of the Transport Department (Mr E. Wilson) yesterday. Mr Wilson said that because of the excavations that were being made on the south side of Riccarton road there would be room for only one-way traffic over part of the road. A serious traffic jam could result if a lot of motorists tried to use the road at the same time. He urged motorists to use Blenheim road as far as possible or to turn off Riccarton road before reaching the excavated portion. A big volume of traffic was expected before and after the race and unless drivers avoided the congested part of Riccarton road there would be serious delays, Mr Wilson said.
