HEAVY RAIN AT MILFORD

82 Trampers Cut Off (New Zealand Press Association) INVERCARGILL, Jan. 23. Eighty-two persons are marooned on the Milford Track today by creeks that are in flood after a downpour of rain. Six inches fell at Milford Sound during the 24 hours ended at 9 a.m. today and at noon it was still raining heavily. The parties on the track are unable to get past the Pompolona huts. As there are not sufficient beds for the 82, one party attempted to get back to Glade House at the head of Lake Te Anau this morning and travel through the Homer Tunnel to Milford Sound by bus. But at Milford it was thought the flooded creeks would be too high for the trampen to succeed.
