Israel-Jordan NoMan’s Land

(Rec. 7 p.m.) NEW YORK, January 22. The United Nations Security Council today unanimously adopted a British and American resolution aimed at settling the dispute between Jordan and Israel over the no-man’s land area of Mount Mukkaber, south of Jerusalem. The resolution endorsed the recommendation of the acting United Nations Chief of Staff in the area (Lieutenant-Colonel Byron Leary) that Israel and Jordan should discuss through the mixed commission “civilian activities” in the zone. The resolution also called on Israel to suspend such activities until a survey of property records had been made to determine property ownership in the zone. This . suspension would create “an atmosphere which would be more conducive to fruitful ..discussion,” the resolution said. Discussions in the mixed armistice comnfission should be completed within two months and the results reported to the council. Meanwhile both Israel and Jordan should prevent forces from crossing the armistice demarcation lines and should “remove or destroy all their respective mill* tary facilities and installations in t* sone.” 4
