Import Controls
Sir,—- What a pity that anyone should feel compelled to write in such poor taste as “Contented Housewife.” Can your correspondent give good reason why. in view of the policy of the present New Zealand Government, the British dairy farmer should be discouraged any longer from expanding his industry? For many years' he has been exposed to unrestricted competition from New Zealand produce. In view of this, do not the present restrictions seem both unfair and selfish? If. as your correspondent implies, trade between New Zealand and Britain during the war was unilateral, then surely the New Zealand Government of the time had little choice in the matter of overseas funds. —Yours, etc., BRITON 11. January 22, 1958.
