Though a number of the older ewes offered were not very attractive from a breeding point of view, there was a ready demand for anything worth while at values in line with late rates. The offering totalled 19,853 head compared with 22,221 last week and was made up ot 15,197 lambs, • 263 two-tooth ewes, 4269 older ewes and 124 wethers. Store lambs, of which the selection was about 4000 down on last week, were again in strong demand from a large gallery of buyers and although prices were possibly a little easieir, some sales were made at values in excess of last weeks* good sale. The best of - the lambs may have been is to 2s easier with medium and lighter sorts, down about Is, but the movement was not very marked. The annual draft of 1358 Southdown Romney cross lambs from the estate of R. O. Bradley (Chatteris Bay) again attracted widespread interest. With the top pen of 85 selling to 62s 6d the line averaged 53s 7d. Last year 1105 from the Bradley Estate averaged 60s 4d with the tops selling at 695. Otherwise, one of. the best sales of wether lambs was made by H. H. Lankow (Te Oka), who received 53s 6d for . 100 Romneys. A. Johnson (Bromley) also sold 31 wether lambs at 545. The best of the wether lambs made from 50s to 545, with extra good lines to 62s 6d, good at 45s to 495, average at 40s to 44s and others down to 30s. Ewe Lambs In the ewe lamb section Watson and Topp, Ltd. (Waipara) headed the market with two sales at 81s 6d and 70s for Corriedales; W. R. Harris (Amberley) sold 29 at 725; and H. H. Lankow sold 84 Romneys at 675. Best ewe lambs realised from 67s to Bls 6d, good 60s to 66s and average at 50s to 555.

BURNSIDE (New Zealand Press Association) DUNEDIN. January 22. For the second week in succession the numbers of fat sheep penned at Burnside were below butchers’ requirements today. Hoggets and wethers rose a further 7s to Bs. and some of the light quality wethens ordinarily bought by graziers were bought today by butchers. Ewes up only 2s or so on last week’s figures, were still 5s to 6b above schedule rates. A smaller offering ot lambs, mostly ordinary Sorts, was sought by freezing works buyers at up to schedule rates. Freezing lambs fell Is to Is 6d a head because of . the drop in the export schedule, but butchers lambs sold freely at Up to 78s Id. The fat cattle market opened at arm fate, and improved to the extent ot £2 to £X a head.
