Brown, one of the-three local minus playete in the second round of the open rtiampiOMhip of the national of th. champtonships, was played on the untrue Gonville lawns and was not a real test of the fine ability of both players. Heenan believed that, had the game been played on the Wanganui lawns, a different story might have been told. After Heenan took the first game with the loss of only one point, Mrs Brown hit out in fine style and brought the score to game-all. The third game was a fight all the way, Heenan eventually winning by a narrow margin. Results today were:— Championship Doubles First Life, Quarter-final.—J. Tucker and Mrs F. J. Duckworth (Palmerston North) beat Mrs H. Lockett (Wanganui) and Mrs O. Paykel (Auckland), 26-18; Mr and Mrs C. T. Wadsworth (Auckland) beat Mrs H. Purdy (Auckland) and Mrs B. A. Reynolds (Christchurch) and Mrs L. Cooper (Wellington) beat Mrs R. Eden* and Mrs A. J. Thompson (New Plymouth), 26-15; Mrs A. Drummond and Mrs L. Michell (Wanganui) beat Mrs C. D. N.Z. JUNIOR TITLES Good Win For J. Trainor A good win by J. Trainor, of Christchurch, over Mrs A. Clucas, of Allenton. Ashburton, in the handicap singles final, was the feature of play in the New Zealand junior croquet championships at Ashburton yesterday. The greens were again very fast. Trainor, giving away one bisque to Mrs Clucas, made a break of 10 during the match. Results of the day’s play were:— CHAMPIONSHIP SINGLES Semi-final First Life.—Mrs W. L. Salton (Oamaru) beat Mrs R. Stuart (Christchurch), 26-16; Mrs W. Bryant (Allenton) beat Mrs W. H. Parker (Christchurch), 26-20. Second Life.—Mr? Stuart beat Mrs A. Boyd (Waireka), 26-13, HANDICAP SINGLES Final J.
