Lyttelton Youth Fined
A youth who rode a motor-cycle along the footpath in the shopping area of London street, Lyttelton, on a Sunday afternoon was fined £5 by Mr Rex C. Abernethy, S.M., in the Lyttelton Magistrate’s Court yesterday. He waa John Joseph HUI, aged 17, who did not appear. He was charged with driving in a manner which may have been dangerous. Evidence was given that Hill had started up his motor-cycle and had ridden it 100 yards along the footpath. In addition to the fine the Magistrate suspended Hill’s driving licence for three months. On a further charge of having no driving Ucence, Hill was fined £l. The police stated that he had since obtained a Ucence.
william Kemp, a seaman, who did not appear, was charged with driving in a manner which may have been dangerous. The police said Kemp was seen to be driving in an erratic manner and when a 'tyre blew out while descending a hiU he made no attempt to stop. In turning a corner with the flat .tyre he almost capsized the car. He was convicted and fined £6 and an order was made prohibiting him from obtaining a licence for six months. On a charge of giving false information for the purpose of obtaining a rental car Kemp was fined £5 and on a charge of driving without a Ucence he was fined £l. In other traffic cases fines were imposed as follows: —Johannes T. Van TiUaart, no driving licence, £1; Terence Joseph Foote, no
driving Ucence, £5, no warrant of fitness, £1; David McKenzie Roache, driving a taxi over a railway crossing when the line was not clear, £4; David Albert Radcliffe, driving without due care and attention, £2; Joseph Parrett, unlighted parked vehicle, £3; Gordon Donald Thomas McLennan, driving without due care and attention, £3; Charles Subritzky, double parking, £l. Housing Act Breach
For failing to carry out repairs to a dwelling as required under the Housing Act, George Smith was convicted and fined £3. The Lyttelton Borough Council inspector (Mr H. G. Ablett) told the Court that some of the repairs had since been done and that the defendant had placed an order for the remainder of the work to be done.
Denzil Brian Nell, aged 19, and Raymond John Moore, aged 17, both seamen, were charged with letting off fireworks in London street. They were convicted and each ordered to pay costs. Graham Thomas Brasell, aged 18, for being on Ucensed premises while under age, was convicted and fined £2. On a similar charge Johannes T. Van TiUaart was fined £l. For being on the licensed premises of the Saxon Hotel after hours George Clark and Robert Heaton Clark were each fined £3 and Victor James Wilson and Mahara Wilson were convicted and discharged. A charge against Peter Campbell of being on the licensed premises of the Saxon Hotel after hours was dismissed.
