Surf life saving' among women in New. Zealand has become in. creasingly popular In recent years and the stage has now been reached where women surfers take a prominent part in Dominion tournaments. One of the more recently-formed and most successful women’s clubs is the Gisborne club.

The club at present holds the Arawa Shield for the women’s six-man* rescue and resuscitation event, and the team will be extremely difficult to beat for the

title next month at South Brighton. Since the last championships in Wellington club members have been determined to compete in the tournament at South Brighton. To this end they hired out their services as baby sitters to raise funds for the trip, and were very successful in their venture. During the last three years when the De Costa Trophy for resuscitation has been competed for by Gisborne and East Coast clubs, members of the club have won the award twice. They also won the women’s marchpast championship last season.
