Antarctic Crossing
Sir.—This correspondence seems to have wandered a good way from the Antarctic, and in some danger of going up in temperature accordingly. But it is unnecessary for “Southron” or anyone else to remind an Englishman of the part played by Canadians. Australians, and New Zealander in the last war. or the previous affair: and it is. of course, conceivable that without • their help, and that of sundry gallant Frenchmen. Poles. Czechs and others, the Battle of Britain might not have been won. But the consequences to New Zealand of such a disaster would hardly have been mitigated by the knowledge that Britain herself had also ceased to be a sovereign State.— Yours, etc., M.T. January 20, 1958.
