Parliament OPENING OF SESSION

Members Sworn In Today (New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON, January 20. The first session of New Zealand’s thirty-second Parliament will be opened by a commission of three judges of the Supreme Court at 2.30 p.m. tomorrow, after which members will be sworn in by the Clerk of the House of Representatives (Mr H. N. Dollimore) The commission will comprise the Chief Justice (Sir Harold Barrowclough), Mr Justice McGregor and Mr Justice McCarthy.

After members are sworn in the Senior Government Whip (Mr H L. J. May) will propose that Mr R. M. Macfarlane (Government. Christchurch Central) be appointed Speaker, and this will be seconded by the Junior Government Whip (Mr R. Macdonald). When elected, the new Speaker will be led to the chair by the Whips and the mace will be placed in position. After congratulations have been extended to the Speaker on his appointment, the House will adjourn until Wednesday afternoon, when the Governor-General (Lord Cobham) will deliver the Speech from the Throne, which is traditionally an outline of the business to come before the House during the session. The order of business for the present week* has not yet been decided, Mr Nash said this morning before leaving by air for Auckland to meet the British Prime Minister (Mr Macmillan). Tax Legislation

It is expected that the legislation to provide for the Government’s rebate of £lOO on income tax and for the payment of social security tax on income other than salary and wages will be introduced.

When the motion for a respectful address-in-reply will be presented is also in doubt. When it is presented two new Government members who beat National Party members at the general election, will initiate the debate. Mr A. J. Faulkner (Labour Roskill) will be the mover, and Mr W. A. Fraser (Labour, St Kilda) the seconder.
