RECEPTION IN THEATRE
Time Of Function Extended
As a result of a telephone conversation between the Christchurch Town Clerk (Mr H. S. Feast) and the Internal Affairs Department, Wellington, the time for the civic reception to the Queen Mother in the Civic Theatre on February 12 has been more than doubled. The occasion will now take more than half an hour.
Mr Feast said yesterday that it was planned that the Queen Mother would arrive about 9 p.m. She will be met by the Mayor (Mr R. M. Macfarlane, M.P.), Mrs Macfarlane, ajid Mr Feast. In the foyer. Mrs Feast will be presented to her. If Cabinet Ministers and their wives are present they will be in the foyer. The Mayor will escort the Queen Mother through the theatre to the stage. Cabinet Ministers will follow. After the first verse of the National Anthem has been played the Queen Mother will be presented with a bouquet, and the Mayor will read his address of welcome.
One of the three artists yet to be chosen will then perform, and local members of Parliament and their wives and City Councillors and their wives will be presented to the Queen Mother. She will sign the leather-bound City Council visitors’ book. There will be another musical item and a gift will be presented from the city to Her Majesty. After that the Queen Mother will read her reply to the Mayor’s address. The Mayor will call for three cheers New Zealand’s National Anthem will be sung, and Her Majesty, her party, and the 200 or so invited guests will depart for supper in the Mayor’s suite.
