EDUCATION IN KENYA
Asian Parents 9 Grievances
NAIROBI, January 20.
More than 1200 Asian parents yesterday passed a vote of no confidence in the Kenya Director of Education because the percentage of their children passing examinations is low compared with that of European children.
They claim that about 3000 out of 4000 Aslan children taking the Asian Preliminary Examination each year are failed, whereas in European schools between 80 and 90 per cent, of the children pass their examinations.
The president of the Nairobi Indian Association (Mr A. Jamidar) said that anyone who raised the question with the Education Department "is contemptuously dubbed a racialist.” He said the solution was a common examination for all pupil* irrespective of race, colour, sex or creed.
The meeting suggested that a delegation of parents should wait on the Colonial Secretary if their grievances were not met.
